Procedure Description:

* The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under sedation or general anesthesia.

* A small incision is made either under the pigmented area of the breast
(the nipple/areola complex), or under the breast, or in the armpit, and an implant is inserted either on top or beneath the muscle on the chest wall.

Recuperation and Healing:

* The patient goes home in a soft, elastic bra.

* Initial discomfort is controlled with mild medication.

* Sutures are removed at the end of one week when light activities may be resumed;
more vigorous activities may resume after five weeks.

Intended Result:

* A more shapely breast contour in and out of clothing.

* A more positive self-image.

Insurance Guidelines:

* When this procedure is perforemed to correct an abnormality, insurance may provide a partial coverage. Otherwise this procedure is considered cosmetic and is not covered by insurance and the patient is responsible for payment.
