Indications:
* An abnormal appearance to the nose as a result of birth defects, trauma, accident or disease; breathing problems. Nose which is cosmetically unattractive or lacks a
pleasing proportion in relationship to other facial features.
Procedure Description:
* The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under sedation or general anesthesia.
* Cosmetic procedure: Incisions are made inside the nostrils. Nasal bones, cartilage
and soft tissue are reshaped to improve extemal contour.
Large nostrils may be reduced through tiny incisions at the outer base of the nostrils.
Reconstructive procedure: Same general principle for abnormal noses.
Breathing problems are corrected by straightening the internal
septum.
Additional Procedures Which Enhance the Result:
* Chin enlargement
Recuperation and Healing:
* The patient goes home with splint and possibly nasal packing.
Packing is removed within twenty-four to fortyeight hours.
Splint is removed within a week.
* Initial discomfort is easily controlled with mild medication.
* Majority of the swelling and bruising progressively subsides over two to four weeks.
* Final result is evident as early as three months.
* For cosmetic problem: More attractive profile in which the nose is in better proportion
to other facial features.
* For reconstructive problem: Improved breathing capacity through both nostrils.
Insurance Guidelines:
* When the procedure is performed to correct physical problems or deformities, it is
fully or partially covered by insurance. However, cosmetic reshaping of the normal
nose is not covered by insurance and the patient is responsible for payment.
NOTE: The specifics, risks, and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can only be determined through a consultation with the plastic surgeon.
