To reverse the signs of aging, it isn’t uncommon to contact a Fort Lauderdale plastic surgeon. Wrinkles, one of the first and most common signs of aging are often treated with Botox.

But have you considered Dysport to correct wrinkles and fine lines?

Botox and Dysport have a lot in common. They are both non-surgical injectables that reduce the signs of aging, particularly fine lines, and wrinkles. In this article, we will explain the underlying differences to help you determine whether Botox or Dysport is the right option for you.

What Is Botox?

Botox is an injectable that reduces wrinkles by blocking the nerve signals in the face muscles to the brain. Like Dysport, it is a neurotoxin that blocks muscle contractions. When the nerve signals in the face are blocked, it restricts movement, which ultimately reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Essentially, Botox is a safe and effective procedure that relaxes the facial muscles that cause wrinkles.

What Is Dysport?

An alternative to Botox is a nonsurgical injectable called Dysport. It works in the same way as Botox, relaxing the facial muscles to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It can also increase volume in vulnerable areas, such as the forehead and between the eyebrows. Many people consider Dysport to be the European counterpart to Botox.

Dysport is a safe and effective treatment that must be used under a highly skilled and certified doctor, such as Dr. Russel F. Sassani of Take Shape.

Both Dysport and Botox can be used to treat neurological disorders but are widely used as a treatment against wrinkles. It is important to note that neither treatment can permanently get rid of wrinkles, but they are more effective than anti-wrinkle formulas and serums.

What Are The Differences?

Now that you know the similarities of both procedures, you are probably wondering what are the differences? Let’s take a look.

Both products have different molecular behaviors and diffusions, meaning they work better when targeted in certain areas. When it comes to Botox, it works best for:

  • Lip lines
  • Bunny lines
  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines
  • Crow’s feet

Although it can be used to treat mild frown lines and forehead lines, Botox is a slow-moving injectable that is best used in smaller surface areas, such as the lips and along the nose (bunny lines).

Results can be seen within a week, but some individuals do not see improvement until one month. Botox can last up to six months before individuals need another treatment.

Dysport is more effective at targeting larger surface areas. Other facts include:

  • Reduces the appearance of lines between the eyebrows (often called frown lines)
  • Reduces the appearance of forehead lines
  • Spreads quickly and evenly over larger areas with the need of fewer injections
  • Should be used primarily for moderate to severe forehead lines (ask your doctor if your lines are considered mild, moderate, or severe)
  • Can be done within minutes and patients can leave directly after the procedure

Because Dysport spreads faster over a larger surface, it is a better treatment for wrinkles on the forehead and between the eyebrows than Botox. You may begin to see its effects in a couple of days and it can last between 3 to 4 months, at which time, you will need to go in for another procedure.

Final Thoughts

Dysport and Botox are very similar. Both are non-invasive cosmetic procedures to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with little pain and practically no recovery time. The cost is also relatively the same. However, the candidates will differ. For example, Dysport can only treat certain types of wrinkles, primarily on the forehead and between the eyebrows, and is only recommended for people who have moderate to severe wrinkles. On the other hand, Botox can target many areas but works less effectively than Dysport in treating severe wrinkles. The procedure you choose will depend solely on what type of wrinkles you have.
