Summer may be over, but things are heating up in the world of beauty secrets and skin rejuvenation. At Take Shape Plastic Surgery in Fort Lauderdale, we are proud to say that we are always on the cutting edge of new and developing cosmetic and beauty treatments. We are thrilled to be able to share the CO2 Fractional Laser technology with our practice! If you didn’t know this already, laser skin resurfacing has become the gold standard in skin rejuvenation for improving tone, texture, and wrinkles of the skin. The most popular treatment areas include the full face, neck, and upper chest. If you’re looking for new and improved ways to have youthful, glowing skin this Fall, you’re at the right place!

At Take Shape Plastic Surgery, we are committed to offering only the best in aesthetics, and that includes using state-of-the-art equipment for cosmetic procedures. One of the most popular items out there this season is the CO2 Laser. The CO2 Laser is short for the “Carbon Dioxide Fractional Laser.” The newest versions of CO2 Laser resurfacing machines use very short, pulsed light energy (also known as ultra-pulse), or continuous light beams that are delivered in a scanning-like pattern to remove thin layers of skin with minimal heat damage. CO2 Lasers are microscopically small but deeply penetrating and highly effective CO2 Laser “micro beams.” They rehabilitate scarred tissue and stimulate your body to produce substantial amounts of new, healthier collagen in the skin. Laser skin resurfacing with CO2 Lasers has proven to help reduce wrinkles, age spots, acne scars, and blemishes, as well as to tighten skin and balance skin tone.

Laser Season at Take Shape Plastic Surgery

This may sound a bit funny, but Autumn is actually considered “laser season” in the world of cosmetic plastic surgery. Why? Because laser-treated skin is known to be hypersensitive to sun exposure for up to a year following some laser procedures. This is why many cosmetic surgeons recommend undergoing laser resurfacing like CO2 Lasers, during Fall or Winter months when those daytime hours are shorter, and you are probably spending more of your time indoors.

No matter what season you choose to have your CO2 Laser procedure done in, you will absolutely have to wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen daily and reapply as needed. This will not only help to keep your CO2 Laser results looking their best, it will also provide protection against skin cancer and continually help prevent additional, premature aging.

What Can You Expect from Co2 Skin Rejuvenation with Take Shape?

Although most laser treatments are generally considered non-surgical, they are not all downtime-free. Skin rejuvenation with laser resurfacing requires recovery time, which varies depending on the type of laser used as well as an individual’s health and healing rate.
The CO2 Laser is an in-office procedure. Resurfacing works by heating and ablating the top layer of your skin, exposing a fresh new layer of skin. The heat from the treatment will be stimulating collagen production over the next 6 to 12 months. This is not only going to be firming your skin, but it lightens dark spots, improves pore size, and helps to minimalize wrinkles. This CO2 Laser resurfacing requires at least a week of downtime with minimal to no sun exposure. During this week of downtime, you will be required to cover your skin in very thick ointment to speed up the healing process. It will take about a week for your skin to slough, unveiling new, beautiful skin. This doesn’t mean you have to hide out at home for weeks, but it does mean that your skin will be raw, red, and scab over as it is in the process of healing. You may not feel comfortable in certain social situations, and you will need to modify your activities to avoid situations where infection is possible (swimming, gym workouts, etc.). Our number one concern for our valued Take Shape patients is that they have a healthy, safe recovery for optimum beauty results!
